A DISTRIBUTOR network is to be set up in the UK by Mack Truck Inc, the American heavy truck manufacturer. It has also announced plans to establish assembly facilities in Europe — probably Belgium or Holland.
Appointment of UK distributors is expected this year with vehicles becoming available soon after. The new production plant is Lai expected to be operational in mid 1976.
Trucks are already shipped from the USA in kit form and are assembled in Ireland, Belgium and France by local distributors.
Likely models for the UK market are the MB-series forward-control models and the bonneted F-series.
The MB is produced as a six-wheel rigid or four-wheel rigid or tractive unit. Gross 'vehicle weights range from 13 tonnes (12.9 tons) to 26.3 tonnes (25.9 tons) for the four-wheeler; and 20.2 tonnes (19.9 tons) to 45.3 tonnes (44.6 tons) for the sixwheeler, The F-series four and six wheel tractive units are designed for operation at gross weights between 24.9 tonnes 24.6 tons) and 55.8 tonnes (54.9 tons).
