WITH commercial vehicle production at its lowest since 1967, further energy savings in road transport would cause damage to the motor industry out of proportion to the energy savings achieved. This point is made by MrJohn Beswick, director of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, in a preBudget memorandum to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The SMMT expects commercial vehicles sales in the UK to fall by a further 6 per cent to 226,000, 26 per cent lower than the 1 973 levels.
