IN the year ended September 30, lexports of vehicles by Dennis Bros., Ltd., reached a record volume. Sir Geoffrey Burton, chairman, states in his annual report. Referring to the supply of raw materials, he says: The Government are undoubtedly applying themselves to this urgent problem, and if they can help in such a way that a steady flow of materials can be assured. Dennis Bros., Ltd., can promise in return that productivity will increase, with a corresponding reduction in real costs."
The company's fire-engine and municipal departments have had a good year and have recorded increases in exports of 40 per cent. and 30 per cent. respectively. The commercial-vehicle department has also made good progress and development work for the Fighting Vehicle Design Establishment of the Ministry of Supply is continuing.
During the year under review, the subsidiary company, Dennis Contracts. Ltd., which handled hire-purchase business, was wound up.
• OVER 2m. RETREADS
A LTHOUGH a retreaded tyre was
not a new product, it offered good value for money, and a great amount of material and hard currency had been saved by reconditioning tyre carcases, said Mr. W. G. W. Bird, managing director of Auto Tyre Services, Ltd., Basingstoke, at the presentation of the Blue Peter Cup to W. J. Wood and Son, Ltd., Westcliff-on-Sea.
He mentioned that up to this year over 2m. tyres had been retreaded.
The cup is presented annually to the agent or distributor having the highest turnover of retreaded tyres in a 12month period. Mr. W. M. Wood, replying on behalf of his company, mentioned the seven-day service organized by Auto Tyre Services, Ltd., by which carcases were collected from Westcliff-on-Sea on Monday and delivered, retreaded, a week later. Over 150 agents and distributors attended the function, which was held at Westcliff-on-Sea last week.
