Peers, deputy vice-chancellor of Nottingham University and chairman of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the East Midlands area, made this statement recently, at a dinner of the East Midland section of the Institute of Transport, in Nottingham.

Mr. A. B. B. Valentine, president of the Institute, said that there were three fundamentals necessary for the successful development of transport: the determining of the standard of service to be provided; the provision of service at the lowest practicable cost; and the establishment of good labour relations.
