Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN AMERICA even the environment can damage your health. According to Dallas health authorities, cicadas, which perch up trees and, I am told, make a noise like tons of glass breaking on concrete, emit 82dB, or as much as a heavy lorry 50ft away. This, it is claimed, can cause permanent ear damage over long periods.

I have, however, yet to hear of Friends of the Earth calling for a ban on cicadas.
