Manager at arm's length
A PETROLEUM product company which operates tankers throughout the country and has licences in four traffic areas will have to wait to hear if its licence in the South Wales Traffic area has been renewed.
Roy Emerson, distribution manager of Carless Ltd, Barry Docks was applying for thE renewal of the operator's licence for one vehicle and onE trailer and one of each to bE acquired.
He told the South Wales LA Ronald Jackson that the com. pany hired storage foi petroleum products at Barry Dock and was concerned with the delivery of four products He said it had sufficient worli to keep one vehicle based al Barry fully occupied.
The LA was told that tht transport manager was MI Powter, based in London, whc looked after three operatinE centres. Staff were responsiblE for 24 vehicles and 23 trailers Only one was at Barry, with E maximum of two to consider.
Mr Emerson said the trans port manager was in dail3 contact with the depot ai Barry and the driver wa! always given his instruction! from London.
But reserving his decision the LA said that the transpor manager's living away iron the operating centre coul( cause concern but the COM pany could, in the meantime continue to operate on its olc licence.
