Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The new law requiring all CVs leaving the country by RO-RO passenger ship to be weighed only applies to ferries registered in the UK. New laws are expected soon to cover non-UK-registered ferries. However, companies such as Sally Line and Sealink, which have some ferries registered abroad, say all trucks are now weighed before boarding regardless of the loophole.

o The official crackdown on overloaded Continental trucks entering Britain will be stepped up during the spring. Automatic weighing equipment will be installed on a trial basis at Dover, Ramsgate, Newhaven, Poole and Felixstowe, says Roads Minister Peter Bottomley — and, subject to the outcome of the trials, "we will consider further installation in other ports," he says.
