• Securicor Group's turnover rose to £446 million and pre-tax profits were up 35.7% to £27.3 million in the year to the end of September. The company says last year's Post Office strike helped to boost its parcels business.
• Eaton had a record year in 1988, with sales up to $3.5 billion and profits up to $227.7 million. The company has committed $220 million to capital projects and $120 million to research and development.
• International removals and furniture distribution specialist Abels is buying 20 (mainly Mercedes) box vans to service its new 3,065m2 furniture distribution warehouse at Watton. The building will be used to store furniture before it is delivered to retail outlets.
• Racal-Vodacom has won its biggest ever deal for the Band 3 mobile phone radio service, with a £50,000 contract for XP Express Parcels Systems. The overnight parcels carrier has fitted 80 vehicles with the phones.
• Hanson (Trucks) has been appointed as a Steyr Truck dealer for north Manchester and Lancashire. The company, part of the Hanson Group, was formerly an Iveco dealership. For details contact (0254) 883696.
