Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I have been trading for seven years, I work from home and for six years have had my operating centre in a council lorry park. I have three tractors and five trailers which are maintained in the street. I am obviously a cowboy operator and if the RHA had its way I would be stopped.

I use the lorry park because I could find nowhere else in London. I could show you 15 sites I have tried but none wants to rent to lorry owners. I now rent space from another haulier, but still sometimes use the local lorry park.

I have a mobile mechanic who comes to service the trucks in the street because, of the four garages I have used, none have done a satisfactory job. I am myself a qualified mechanic so I know what I am looking at when it comes to checking a vehicle.

I have never had a GV9 or a wheel fall off and I defy anyone to come and do a spot check and find any serious fault on any of my trucks or trailers. None of my drivers have ever been done for offences.

I am sick of this "holier than thou" attitude from the big organisations. There are a huge number of owner-drivers and small firms who are hardworking, honest and lawabiding, and who maintain their vehicles to a very high standard without the resources of the big companies.

Please RHA and anyone else who is guilty, stop calling anyone small a cowboy.
