DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES • The Government is amending its Road traffic {Carriage of dangerous substances in Packages etc) regulations 1986 so that vehicles will not have to display the orange warning plate during loading or unloading.
Other amendments include changes in the criteria for classifying oxidising substances and substances which emit flammable gases when they make contact with water. The HSE has also changed the limits imposed on the strength of solutions or mixtures of certain organic peroxides.
From 1 March 1989 hauliers can no longer carry poisons in the same vehicle as foodstuffs unless adequate anticontamination precautions have been taken.
