Overall, parent company Cummins Engine lost 236.2 million in 1988 despite a 19% increase in annual sales to 21.9 billion. The company attributes the poor operating figures to intense competition and discounting in the North American market as well as production inefficiencies.
El Hanson Trust, which currently owns 9.97% of Cummins Engine, has received regulatory approval to increase its holding to 15%.
