Patrick Daley Shearwood, who has spent three years as a NATO staff officer and was for three years an Air Attaché with the British High Commission in Cyprus, is joining British Road Services Ltd as recruitment and selection manager. Mr Shearwood has recently retired from the RAF after 30 years as an aircrew officer; during the Second World War he flew in bombers and transport support aircraft. He became an MBE in 1953.
Charles Lein, director and general . manager of Shropshire Tyre Co Ltd, has been elected president of the National Tyre Distributors' Association, Mr Lein was with the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co (Great Britain) Ltd from 1923 to 1964.
R. D. Cater, assistant technical editor of Commercial Motor, has joined AiIse Trucks Ltd, Glasgow, the Volvo truck UK concessionaires, as sales promotion manager.
Mark H. J. Radcliffe, 32, has been appointed to the newly created post of chief executive with Lancer Boss Ltd, bringing sales, aftersales service and spares , under single responsibility. Ted Webster, formerly manager truck operations UK has been promoted to take charge of the Avis Truck International operation, and is succeeded by Brian Coleshill. Ron Harris. previously area manager south, will on April 1 take over as sales and marketing manager UK. Other appointments include Gary Smith as area manager south, David Bentley, area manager north-east, and Russ Hamilton, area manager north-west.
Clifford L. Jones, 36, director of C and V Jones (Executive Coaches) Ltd of Eccles, Lancs, has been appointed to the Appeal Board of the Association of British Travel Agents. Mr Jones is chairman of ABTA's reorganization committee. He is also managing director of C and V Jones Travel Agency Ltd.
W. E. Hardy has been elected chairman of the Manchester and, district area of the North Western, Merseyside and North Wales division of the Freight Transport Association; W. R. Peel is vice-chairman. In our report last week we should have stated that L. Carswell, chairman, T. A. Jenkinson, D. A. Burnham, vicechairmen, were elected to these positions in the Eastern (Metropolitan sector) area of the London and Home Counties division.
H. B. Snell and J. R. Birley have been appointed assistant managing directors of Plaxtons (Scarborough) Ltd as part of the reorganization of the company's executive board in preparation for the eventual retirement of T. H. Stephenson, its present managing director. W. S. Newman and E. D. Slack continue as directors, and T. G. Naylor, A. Hare and D. Naylor as associate directors.
