WHAT BRIDGES the gap between a flying boat and a steam roller? Answer: The Transport Trust. It has rescued among other notable relics, Southern Cross, the last operational Sandringham-clas flying boat, from the West Indies; Invicta, the locomotive that opened the Canterbury an Whitstable railway in 1830; am a rare 1923 Garrett steam mile' which had retired to Ibiza.
The trustees have launched i appeal for funds to enable wor of preserving transport history to be expanded. This year's target is £100,000 in cash or sponsorship. Transport Trust, 374 City Road, London EC1V 20A, whose patron is the Duke of Edinburgh, will be pleased t( provide further information.
