T. W. H. Gailey has been appointed the Transport Holding Company's director of passenger planning to assist it at top level in co-ordinating its work on passenger transport planning and organization. He will continue as chairman of the Tilling Association Ltd.
First two honorary life members of the RHA are Harry Bell, proposed by the Scottish area, a past vice-chairman, and Bernard Winterbottom, North Western (Eastern) area, RHA chairman from 1952-54.
R. B. Sinnott has been re-elected chairman of the Irish section of the Institute of Transport. Vice-chairmen are: C. J. Barry, G. P. Harvey, and D. Herlihy. R. Burgin, deputy general manager of Sheffield United Tours Ltd., has been appointed general manager from July 1, in succession to B. Goodfellow, who retires on June 30. Mr. Burgin began his career with County Motors (Lepton) Ltd., in 1928, and became its engineer in 1942. He joined Sheffield in 1946 as engineer and became deputy general manager this January.
R. W. Elliott, MP, has been re-elected president of the National Conference of Road Transport Clearing Houses. Vice-presidents: S. Eastmead, J. W. Ellis, T. W. Jackson, J. Arnold Kirby, Mrs. D. G. Parkin and R. W. Tree. Chairman: S. Marsh, Vice-chairmen: A. G. Lavers, D. K. Archbold.
M. J. Welsh has been appointed general manager of Channel Road Services, the Hay's Wharf TIR ferry trailer subsidiary, following
the resignation of G. H. C. Balfour-Kinnear. Latterly Mr. Welsh has assisted in forward planning for a new inland customs clearance depot CO handle both containerized and roll-on roll-off traffic. He is a member of the containerization study group, National Joint Council on Materials Handling.
The formation of—and financial arrangements for—General European Road Services Ltd., having been completed, R. L. Collen has resigned from the board on the appointment of G. H. C. Balfour-Kinnear as managing director.
Trevor C. Thomas is the new transport and distribution co-ordinator of Lever Brothers and Associates Ltd. He is based at the head of a management team in the Port Sunlight soap and detergents factory while his predecessor, J. K. Tunstall, has returned to London as forward planning manager for the company.
