This was announced by Dr John Gilbert, the Minister of Transport in Parliament last week. He said that the Department was consulting interested organisations about a proposal that individual control books be introduced for drivers of certain classes of passenger vehicles so that the drivers hours regulations might be more effectively enforced.

A DoE spokesman later said that he could not disclose what were the "certain classes " that the minister had in mind.

A spokesman for the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport said that it had received the DoE proposals but could not comment until these went before the appropriate committee.

Bee-line

CONTINENTAL coach tours run by both National Travel and Bee-line Roadways Ltd are to be merged next year and will be marketed under one name.

The new Bee-line-National will cover all the tours in the amalgamated programmes. Organisation will be done by Beeline with regional charting offices in London, the Midlands and the North.
