A WARNING to lorry drivers of the risks involved in taking dogs and other pets with them on journeys to and from the Continent was given this week.
It came from the International Group Committee of the Road Haulage Association and follows a number of prosecutions in which heavy fines were imposed for breaking quarantine rules Chairman of the group, Mr G. C. Alliston, of Walter M Hatton Ltd, said: "Anyone who tries to infringe the regulations about bringing animals into this country is being foolish as wel as criminal in view of the widespread publicity which has beer given to the danger of a rabies epidemic."
The group's action came after a report that one or two driver: had tried to pass through Felixstowe Docks with their pets.
