SOUTHERN VECTIS has caused dismay and anger throughout the canine world by a condition attached to the issue of dog rover tickets at a quarter of the adult fare. This prohibits their sale except in conjunction with a human passenger's all-journey ticket.
A St Bernard told me: "To suggest that dogs are not capable of buying their own tickets and travelling alone on buses is to reduce them to second-class animals. I'm no Greenham Common militant but I call on Barbara Woodhouse to lead a national canine disobedience campaign.
"Until Southern Vectis changes its rule I shall bite the postman every day and refuse to sit, come when called, go walking or have my tail pulled by horrible kids. I demand a democratic lamp-post ballot with a show of hind legs."
