Details of the Recent Arrangement Concluded Between the Halifax Corporation and two Railway Companies.

IT is generally known that, in interpreting the powers granted to them to establish passenger road services, certain of the railway companies have been in close touch with municipal authorities which are already operating motorbus services. It is, therefore, interesting to learn that the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co. and the London and North Eastern Railway Co. have just concluded an arrangement with the Halifax Corporation under which the railway companies have become associated with the corporation in the

operation of certain existing bus routes, whilst they have taken over entirely from the corporation certain Other routes. The new arrangement took effect as from April 1st.

The municipal but routes confined to the borough remain under the control of the Halifax Corporation, but the following routes, which extend beyond the borough boundary, are to be controlled by a joint committee composed of four representatives of the corporation and four nominees of the railway com panies:—Halifax-Huddersfield, Halifax-Bailiff Bridge, Halifax-Ripponden,

Halifax-Sowerby, Elland Sowerby Bridge, Halifax-Brighouse and Lower Edge, Halifax-Hebden Bridge and Hep

tonstall, Halifax-Luddenden and Midgley and Halifax-Beech Road .(Sowerby Bridge).

The arrangement recently concluded provides that, in the case of any bus services to and from Halifax which may be developed farther afield, they are to be operated by the railway Companies.

It is expected that the agreement will result in harmonious working relations between the corporation and railway transport interests in the area, thus preventing wasteful competition, whilst, by the collaboration of effort, it is anticipated that a number of improvements will be effected in transport arrangements around Halifax. In this connection it is stated that the Ryburn Valley, Sowerby, Beech Road, Midgley and Heptonstall bus services will be extended to Halifax (Old) Railway Station to provde a suitable connection with the railway.
