for the
SHAH of PERSIA
TN view of the efforts at present .lbeing made to develop our trade with countries overseas, it will no doubt be of interest to give brief details of a patent Curtis two-horse box which has just been constructed for HIM. the Shah of Persia. This box has been supplied by the National Motor Horse Box Co., Curtis Buildings, Park Royal, London, N.W.10, the sole distributor in this country, and it is mounted on an Albion 20-60 h.p. low-load-line chassis, which was specially selected because of the nature of the country in which the vehicle is to be used.
The horsebox embodies the usual Curtis refinements and patents, including the company's automaticbalance-controlled drop ramp and safety gates.
The whole framing is carried out in Vickers duralumin, whilst the panelling is in aluminium. The design includes a clerestory roof, which has been embodied to provide extra ventilation, and an electric exhaust fan is included.
The body is insulated throughout by means or an air space, and the whole of the interior panelling is of teak, the same wood being used for the floor. All the interior fittings can be removed in a few minutes, so that the vehicle can be utilized for general purposes.
There is ample accommodation for the grooms at the rear end of the vehicle, where there are comfortable seats, saddle racks, opening windows, electric light, etc., access to this part of the vehicle being gained by a central door at the rear. An unusual feature is a control for the ventilation, this being by a small hand lever in the grooms' compartment, which opens or closes the ventilators according to the requirements.
The cab portion of the vehicle is built separate from the main body and is of the all-weather pattern in which the windows can be opened. The wide seat is well upholstered and, in this case also, the roof is insulated and lined with teak.
