• Employees on fixed-term contracts will gain the same pay and pension rights as permanent staff.
• Minimum disciplinary and grievance procedures must be introduced by all companies (previously those with fewer than 20 employees were exempt).
• Employees sacked by companies which have failed to follow new statutory procedures on discipline and grievance will be regarded as unfairly dismissed and could receive four weeks' pay as compensation, • Employees will be entitled to six months' paid maternity leave with a further six months' unpaid—and they should be able to return from maternity leave to the same job with the same terms and conditions.
• Two weeks' paid paternity leave.
• A right to three months' parental leave in the early years of a child's life is likely to be included.
