• Always try to keep your truck in sight If you leave it unattended.
• Don't leave semi-trailers unattended in laybys, and use kingpin locks.
• If you make the same journey frequently, vary your schedule and route.
• Don't talk about your load in public or over the radio or mobile phone.
• Don't give lifts to unauthorised passengers.
• Look out for signs of tampering with doors, straps or sheets—someone may be back to finish the job later.
• Keep paperwork about the load in a safe place, well away from prying eyes.
• Beware bogus officials or staff—ask for ID if you're not sure.
• If you're sleeping in the cab back the truck up against a wall to prevent access to rear doors and use a secure truckstop.
