Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

it to my ?pot with another artic unit? I ?lieve that this is permissible proding that one of them is unladen; es it matter which?

k In general, an articulated IL tractive unit is classified as a !avy motor car and Section 65 of the oad Traffic Act 1972 lays down that heavy motor car can draw one ailer. A vehicle under tow becomes .a trailer so that it could be held that an articulated unit drawing another vehicle would be drawing two trailers.

However, subsection (4) of Section 65 contains a useful concession. This states that: "Where (a) a motor car or a heavy motor car is, in consequence of a breakdown, being drawn by another motor vehicle and (b) a trailer is so attached to the car that part of the trailer is superimposed on the car and that, when the trailer is uniformly loaded, not less than 20 per cent of the weight of its load is borne by the car, then if the trailer is unladen the car and trailer shall for the purposes of this section be treated as a single trailer."

Therefore, within the provisions of this subsection, a heavy motor car — an articulated unit — can legally draw a trailer — the broken down vehicle — provided the trailer is unladen.
