The peripheral frame semirailer features the company's own heavy-duty valking-beam suspension and spring brakes. Other models available include flat-platorm, TIR tilt, skeletal, van and multi-purpose oil carrier/container carrier/flat-platform erni-trailers each plated up to 30.5 tonnes (30 ons) gross trailer weight.

New for these lightweight chassis is an overrun braking system that does not have to be locked out when reversing. Called the Sigma Back-Up, it does away with all reversing problems, claims B & B.

The company's chassis incorporate its own design of coil-spring and hydraulic damper suspension, and the company produces its own under-gear equipment for axles up to about 2.03 tonnes (2 tons) capacity.

BRIDGE

Bridge Trailers Ltd, Morley, Yorks

Bridge produces all forms of singleand tandem-axle semi-trailers, including flatplatform, skeletal and step-frame designs, for operation up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw, Rather than offering a standard range, the company builds trailers to customers' specific requirements.

Low-loaders and special drawbar applications for payloads up to 101 tonnes (100 tons) are also produced. Removable, knockout or hydraulic goosenecks are offered for lowloader models.

BROCKHOUSE

Brockhouse (Victoria Works) Ltd, Victoria Works, Hill Top, West Bromwich, Staffs B70 OSN Brockhouse produces the Expediter range of fifth-wheel semi-trailers plated for operation up to 27.7 tonnes (27.25 tons) gtw, and auto matic coupling semi-trailers with gross trailer weights between 7.9 and 14.7 tonnes (7.75 and 14.5 tons). The automatic coupling is of the non-collapsible variety.

The Expediter range includes single and tandem-axle low-loaders, skeletals, dual-purpose semi-trailers and bulk load vans. Drawbar units and other semi-trailer models are built to customer requirements.

Some TIR specification trailers are fitted with steerable rear axle's. Running gear is either Brockhouse-designed employing tubular axles or of Rubery Owen manufacture.

ANTHONY CARRIMORE

Anthony Carrimore (Sales) Ltd, North Road, Harelaw, Stanley, County Durham DH9 8HJ This company has rationalized its range of car transporter trailers, and now produces a general-purpose Mark 10 semi-trailer capable of carrying vans, cars or coach chassis, and operating at either UK or Continental heights.

Carrimore also makes a range of tipping semi-trailers complete with steel or alloy bodies and hydraulic tipping gears for operation at gross trailer weights of 24.4 tonnes (24 tons) to 50,8 tonnes (50 tons).

CAR VEYOR

Carveyor Ltd, Lichfield Road, Tamworth, Staffs This firm has recently been acquired by Crane Fruehauf Ltd which is continuing production of car transporters from Carveyors works but under the CF name. The 702 transporter is plated to 17.3 tonnes (17 tons) gross trailer weight and can carry up to seven cars or a mixture of light vans. The semi-trailer top deck is hinged at the front and is lowered on to the rear deck for loading by hydraulic rams.

The model 600 is a double-deck drawbar outfit and has a 9 rri (29.5 ft) long close-coupled drawbar trailer. It can carry up to nine vehicles. All trailers feature pto-driven hydraulic power packs.

CHAR ROLD

Charrold Ltd, St Peter's Road, Huntingdon PE18 7DL Main production from Charrold consists of specialist-built vehicles including all-welded monocoque designs and U-form bodies. Bulkers are conveyor discharge non-tipping and gravity discharge types.

Conventional tipping trailers are made with capacities up to 21.3 tonnes (21 tons) and are fitted with single, tandem or tri-axle bogies.. Other trailers incorporating pneumatic discharge are also available in the same capacity range. Gravity discharge hopper-bodied trailers for granular cargoes are produced, as are similar types equipped with conveyor-belt discharge.

Materials used in construction include steel, aluminium, wood and composite, Rubery Owen running gear is specified.

COOK & TALBOT

Cook & Talbot Engineers Ltd, Oxford Street, Hull, Yorks The C & T range is made up of low-loaders and purpose-built trailers for road and site work.

One example is a drop-frame, rear-loading semi-trailer designed for the drive-on loading of plant and equipment such as fork-lift trucks. Maximum capacity in the trailer well is from 6.1 to 18.3 tonnes (6 to 18 tons), and total maximum payload from 7.1 to 20.3 tonnes (7 to 20 tons). Single-, tandemor tri-axle configurations are available.

The company also makes drawbar tanker trailers. Capable of carrying 4,546 litres (1,000 gal) of fluid, they are plated to 6.6 tonnes (6.5 tons) gross trailer weight.

COURTBURN

Courtburn Ltd, Oakley, Bedford MK43 7RD Courtburn makes single-axle, close-coupled twin-axle and turntable steered drawbar trailers, most with facilities for ground-level loading.

Single , and close-coupled axle trailers are plated up to 8.13 tonnes (8 tons) and, but for one or two models, feature a tilting or completely lowering trailer deck.

To lower the deck, the independently sprung stub axles are hydraulically retracted. The turntable drawbars are plated up to 19.3 tonnes (19 tons) gtw, and loading is facilitated using runon ramps which connect to the trailer beaver tail.

Overrun mechanical brakes are fitted to trailers up to 3.6 tonnes (3.5 tons) gtw, threeline air brakes to trailers over 3.6 tonnes gross.

CRANE FRUEHAUF and BODEN

Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd, Hayes Gate House, Uxbridge Road, Hayes, Middx Crane Fruehauf, the largest UK trailer manufacturer, produces a comprehensive range of trailers. Standard models include flat-platforms, skeletals, TIR vehicles, frameless vans and, in conjunction with Boalloy, the curtainsided Tautliner. F series frameless vans are produced to standard specification in single or tandem-axl form and any customer requiring individui modifications can have them carried out at C service and equipment centres.

Liquid cargo tankers, mobile silos, bu tippers and hoppers are also produced by CF. recent addition to the range is a dual-purpos bulk hopper tank capable of operating at 32. tonnes (32 tons) gcw and designed to handl powder or pallet cargoes.

Apart from producing its own machiner carriers and transporters for loads in excess c 305 tonnes (300 tons), the company is marke ing the Italian Cometto range of modular cor struction trailers. Axles can be added to trailer to increase payload capacity, platforms can b interchanged and semi-trailers converted t drawbars by switching couplings. With the sides folded down, it is a fla platform trailer, and with sides erecte( secondary floor plates form a sloping floor ove one-third of the main floor width from eacf side.

A conveyor belt is housed beneatl removable floorboards, which also serve a: stiffeners for the load-bearing sides wher these are folded down.

CRAVENS HOMALLOY (SHEFFIELD) LTD

Cravens Homalloy (Sheffield) Ltd, Staniforth Road, Darnall, Sheffield, S9 411 Cravens Homalloy makes the Taskvan series of dry-freight semi-trailer frameless vans in three different types; flat deck, step deck or drop deck, produced in various lengths and heights and in models for 16.3-40.6 tonnes (16-40 tons) gross weight.

The company also manufactures the Tasktilt series of TIR bodied semi-trailers in two different types; flat deck and drop frame, produced in various models for 32.5-40.6 tonnes (32-40 tons) gross weight.

Steel . or aluminium ISO freight containers are also built at Sheffield — units are designed to handle various cargoes.

CRAVENS HOMALLOY (WOODVILLE) LTD

Cravens Homalloy (Woodville) Ltd, Sun Street, Woodville, Burton-on-Trent, Staffs.

This company makes a wide range of integral all-welded aluminium body bulk tipping semitrailers and rigid bodies known as the Tasktip. In addition, it also manufactures special tipping units in aluminium alloy and steel to suit customers' own individual requirements.

The company also produces ISO Freight Containers.

DENNISON

Dennison Trailers Ltd, Antrim Lane, Newtownabbey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland A comprehensive range of semi-trailers is manufactured by Dennison, including flat platforms, skeletals, tipping skeletals, step-frame machinery carriers and vans.

Torque diffuser boxes on tubular crossbearers are incorporated in the mark 3 model to give improved cornering stability; low-radius rod pick-up points to ensure a non-reacting bogie under most conditions. Trailers are fitted with conduit-led air and electrical systems.

DIXON-BATE

B. Dixon-Bate Ltd, Bridge Works, Chester CH3 5NA

Straight and drop-frame trailers as well as single or close-coupled-axle drawbar trailers having load capacities up to 8.1 tonnes (8 tons) are produced by this company. A specialized model is the ground level loading semi-trailer which uses hydraulically operated retractable trailing-arm suspension to lower/raise the trailer bed. Maximum loading width is 172cm (5ft 7.5 in) and capacity 6.35tonnes (6.25 tons), The company also makes tanker trailers with capacities up to 4,545 litres (1,000gal).

Drawbar units with capacities up to 3.05 tonnes 13tons) are produced primarily for use with Land-Rovers and semi-trailers and are supplied with either automatic or fifthwheel couplings.

DOUGHTY

Doughty Trailer Sales Ltd, 54 Harland Road, Southbourne, Bournemouth BH6 4DW With doubled production facilities, Doughty has recently made insulated vans, TIR trailers, platform skeletals and platform trailers, as well as the normal production range of special trailers.

In the special range, Doughty has made timber carriages, cattle carriers, dockside trailers, tri-axle step-frame trailer's, dropframe machinery carriers and drawbar trailers for large boats.

DURAMIN

Duramin Engineering Co Ltd, Harbour' Road, Lydney, Glos GL15 4EN The range from Duramin comprises Duravan integral boxvan semi-trailers mounted on single, tandem or tri-axle bogies. Built for operation up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw, the vans incorporate a rolled-steel underframe assembly with standard Rubery Owen running gear. Models consist of alloy-bodied vehicles or semi-insulated bodies with grp-faced plywood panels or polyurethane foam-cored grp plywood panels.

For highly insulated and refrigerated bodies, the company uses grp poliiurethane-foam sandwich panels. The refrigerated bodies can have hanging meat rails, and second decks.

All vehicles can be built to meet T1R specifications without modification. Alloy bulk grain semi-trailers suitable for hopper discharge are also produced.

DYSON

R. A. Dyson and Co Ltd, Grafton Street, Liverpool L8 6RH Production emphasis at Dyson is on lowloaders and purpose-built models. Products range from flats through all types of trailer to machinery carriers with capacities up to 203 tonnes (200 tons).

Running gear for heavy-duty models is Dyson-made, as is a large proportion of other trailer components. However, proprietary axles and running gear may be specified.

Unitized running gear, especially airsuspension units made by Dyson, are suitable for use on integral tankers and other frameless designs where quality of ride is important. The gears are supplied in assembled form on a base frame complete wIth all the brake gear fully piped up.

Air or conventional leaf-spring suspensions and smgle, tandem or tri-axle gears with selftracking rear-axle option on the widespread tandem and tri-axle assemblies are available. Dyson also makes specialized equipment for the oilfields, logging industry, shipyards, dockside and works use.

ECG

ECG Trailers Ltd, The Stoneworks, Silwood Street, Bermondsey, London SEIB Apart from stocking a large selection of reconditioned trailers ECG manufactures all types of semi-trailer for operation up to 32.5tonnes (32tons) pew. Trailers are fitted with RO-R running gear and the company also builds dollies enabling semi-trailers to be used as drawbars.

EEZION

Eezion Ltd, Stanley Works, Ampthill Road, Kempston, Hardwick, Bedford Ground-level loading semi-trailers and single and close-coupled axle drawbar versions are made by Eezion. Single-axle drawbars are plated to 3.25 tonnes (3.2 tons) gtw. The trailers feature a manual/hydraulic retracting suspension which lowers the deck to the ground.

Other versions, ground-level loading tippers, have payload capacities up to 5.28 tonnes (5.2 tons). Tandem-axle trailers are plated to 8.13 tonnes (8 tons) trailer weight; each has manual/hydraulic deck lowering and may be fitted with a winch.

Single or tandem-axle semi-trailers, again with hydraulic wheel retraction enabling ground-level loading, have payload capacities up to 10.16 tonnes (10 tons).

FROMANT

HOY-GREEN

Hoy-Green Engineering Ltd, Staff° Park 2, Telford, Salop TF3 3AB This company manufactures a wide range special-purpose trailers.

Low-loaders from 1 0.1 6 tonnes 110 tons; 61 tonnes (60 tons) payloads are made w various axle configurations, with a detacha axle on smaller models and a detacha. swanneck to patented design on all MOdf Semi-low-loaders for heavy plant, agricultu machinery and similar applications, and lip weight chassis for custom-built vans w either air or mechanical suspension produced.

Hoy-Green also makes caravan transpor traders up to 15.24m (50ft) long with single tandem axles; and purpose-designed trar porters for aircraft components and otl specialized applications.

HOYNOR

Redment Engineering Ltd, Sprin wood Industrial Estate, Rayne Roa Braintree, Essex New in the Hoynor range is a heavy-d version of the beaver-tail step-frame pli trailer. Dimensionally the same as the standard model — unless otherwise required — the trailer is built with a tri-axle bogie, each axle plated to 9.14 tonnes (9 tons), and is designed for a payload of 35.6 tonnes (35 tons).

Car transporters offered by Hoynor include a seven/eight vehicle model, the Mk II, with a top-deck length of 15m (49ft 3i ns) and a bottom deck length of 12.7m (41ft 8in). The Mk Ill is a dual-purpose transporter which can be converted to a flat-platform model for carrying general goods. The Mk VII is a step-frame transporter which has sufficient height between decks to carry Transit-sized vans. It is fitted with Hands Neway air suspension.

The drawbar model uses a two-deck drawbar trailer in conjunction with a rigid chassis fitted with the Mk VII superstructure. The trailer carries four cars, the complete outfit nine cars.

Tipping semi-trailers offer body capacities up to 49.7cum (65cuyd) and are plated for operation up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw as is a range of skeletal trailers.

,INTERCONSULT

Kockum Industries Ltd, Gresham Road, Buckingham Avenue Trading Estate, Slough SL1 4QY This company specializes in vehicles for carrying and handling bulk, especially powders and granular materials.

Semi-trailers, both tipping and otherwise, are mounted with bulk tanks capable of handling between 14.7 and 40.6cu m (525 and 1450 cuft). Single, tandem and tri-axle running gear may be fitted and the containers may be partitioned and each compartment may have separate controls.

ISAIAH OLDBURY

Isaiah Oldbury Ltd, Reliance Works, Portway Road, Wednesbury, Staffs WS10 7DZ Five basic types of trailer are produced by this company; two-wheeled, four-wheeled, closecoupled, drawbar, turntable steered, Ackermann steered and conventional semi-trailers.

The company produces its own axles with carrying capacities from 305 kg (6 cwt) to 20.3 tonnes (20 tons), together with a wide range ot trailer components that enables the Oldbury to produce trailers with carrying capacities in excess of 101.6 tonnes (100 tons) from homeproduced components. These components are also available to any other trailer builder.

KING

King Truck Equipment Ltd, Riverside Industrial Estate, Market Harborough, Leics LE16 7PX King Truck specializes in low-loaders and semi-low-loaders; trailers able to handle payloads up to 610 tonnes (600 tons) have been made.

The company makes single, tandem and triaxle low-loaders for capacities up to 66 tonnes (65 tons), and step-frame models for capacities up to 50.8 tonnes (50 tons).

Other trailers include fork-lift truck carriers, platform extendibles to 31.5 tonnes (31 tons) gtw, and step-frame extendibles up to 45.7 tonnes (45 tons) payload with models on 30.5cm (12in) and 38cm (1 Sin) wheels.

The King/Scheuerle range from this company includes hydraulically suspended floats and heavy drawbar trailers.

LOLODE

Simplex Mechanical Handling Ltd, Lolode Trailer Division, Simplex Works, Bedford MK42 9LB Single, close-coupled and other multi-wheeled trailers are produced by Simplex. Single-axle models have payload capacities of up to 2 tonnes (2 tons) and specialist cable drum trailers have a maximum 6.1 tonnes (6 tons) capacity. Lighter trailers are designed to operate with Land-Rovers and are fitted with LR wheels.

Close coupled four-wheeled trailer§ with payloads from 1,778 kg (35 cwt) to 2,540 kg (50 cwt) fitted with overrun braking, and models from 4.06 tonne (4 tons) fitted with three line air-pressure braking. Steerable axle drawbar trailers are also available up to 6.1 tonnes (6 tons).

Tipping trailers with 9.2cu m (12 cu yd) open top bodies or 6.1 cu m (8 cu yd1 bodies with radiused sliding covers along both sides are available for refuse collection as are tipping hopper trailers 1,023 litre (225 gal) to 2,273 litre (500 gal) capacities for night soil, abattoir offal, liquids, etc, disposal.

MERRIWORTH

A range of car transporters includes twindeck semi-trailer and drawbar versions.

Running gear is by Rubery Owen, and suspensions can be air or single or multi-leaf spring, as required.

MURFITT

R. Murfitt Ltd, Sandal) Road, Wished), Cambs PE13 2RR Murfitt Specializes in the design and construction of bulk powder, feedstuffs and granular handhng equipment. Frameless-design pressure tanks, hoppers, and pressure and gravity discharge non-tipping semi-trailers are produced by the company.

An interesting model in the range is a tipping skeletal semi-trailer designed for use with ISO and Freightliner containers.

All the trailers are designed to conform to a full range of gross vehicle weights and vehicles are fitted with proprietary running gears specified by the customer,

NEVILLE

Neville Industries (Mansfield) Ltd, Bra dder Works, Mansfield, Notts Specializing in tipping semi-trailers, this company has five single-axle designs plated for operation up to 24.4 tonnes (24 tons) gcw, and four tandem-axle models for operation up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw.

Single-axle semi-trailers have cubic capacities up to 21.4 cu m (28 cuyd); three are of frameless or retracting-wheelbase type, the others utilize orthodox tipping gear. All have steel bodywork.

The tandem-axle models have steel or aluminium bodies and utilize conventional or retracting bogie methods of tipping. Typical examples are: Nimrod frameless tipping semitrailer which has an all-alloy welded body and can carry up to 22.9 tonnes (22.5 tons) payload at 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw, and the all-steel Super Ratesaver which can carry a 22.3 tonne (22.ton) payload at 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw.

A new dropside version of the Super Ratesaver steel 32.5 tonne gcw trailer is now available with body lengths from 6.7 to 8.5m (22 to 28.ft). It has a stressed steel floor, underframe and headboard with alloy dropsides and tailboard, and is of the retracting wheelbase tipper type.

Other variations and off-standard designs can be built and generally trailers are fitted with single front-end ram tipping gears and Fiubery Owen running gear.

NORTHERN

OVERLAND Overland Trailers (Manufacturing) Ltd, 536 Hobmoor Road, Yardley, Birmingham B25 8TN This company makes low loading trailers in standard models of up to 50 tons capacity and larger models by quotation.

Trailer versions manufactured include detachable neck, removable axle, step-frame models and "well deck" over the axle trailers which are available in tandem and tri-axle versions for carrying earth-moving equipment.

The company's rear-ramp-loading trailei is available with capacities up to 24 tons.

In a separate works Overland manufacture: a complete range of platform trailers, skeletals TIR and van body trailers.

OVER LANDER

Overlander Trailers Ltd, Wilden Works, Wilden Lane, Stourport, Worcs Overlander makes a wide range of single anc tandem-axle semi-trailers. Models includE flat-platform skeletals, coil carriers, pure skeletals, dry freight and insulated vans.

There are nine standard models of platform trailer covering gross train weights from 18.: to 44.7 tonnes (18 to 44 tons). Drawbar trailer. are plated for operation between 12.2 and 16.: tonnes (12 and 16 tons) gtw.

GN also manufactures standard skeletal or ipping skeletal trailers for 6.1 m (20 ft) or 9.1 m 30 ft) ISO boxes, or to suit a Samson body with SO corner castings.

itandard SIC production is of drawbar trailers if the two-wheeled and close-coupled-axle type. Payload capacities range from 1.02 tonnes (1 ton) on a single-axle version to 4.3 tonnes (4.25 tons) on close-coupled two-axle models.

They all have a towing-eye coupling although clevis-type and 50mm ball-type towing hitches are available — the 50mm balltype for single-axle trailers only.

Towing hitch height can be specified for a fixed level, or alternatively can have a range of movement of 15cm (6in); from 40cm (16in) to 56cm (22in) or 58cm (23in) to 73cm (29in). Trailer models are available with winches, and standard production models are generally . equipped with standard axles and leaf-spring .suspension.

SCAMMELL

Scammell Trailers, British Leyland UK Ltd, Hoveringham, Nottingham NG14 7JZ

From April, production sales and service of Scammell trailers has been moved to British Leyland's Hoveringham factory.

Production of existing Scam mel I models will continue but at higher volume, and a programme of design improvements and new model introductions has been started.

The Scammell range includes drawbar trailers and dollies, single and tandem-axle flat platform, skeletal and tipper semi-trailers, and a range of automatic coupling trailers.

The Challengers S-range semi-trailer includes single-axle units plated to 24.4 tonnes (24 tons) gcw. Flat platform model lengths are from 7.9m (26ft) to 12.2m (40ft), dual-purpose trailers 9.1 m (30ft) to 12.2m.

The T-range is available at plated weights up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw with some running options to increase weight.

SCOTTORN

Scottorn Trailers Ltd, Chartridge, Chesham, Bucks HP5 2SH

Scottorn produces single-axle drawbar trailers with payload capacities up to 2.03 tonnes (2 tons) and two-axle turntable or close-coupled drawbar trailers with capacities up to 16.3 tonnes (16 tons).

Trailer chassis can be fitted with generators, pumps and metering equipment or general goods carrying bodies.

The Bushwacker 1.02 tonne(1 ton)-payload capacity single-axle trailer can be tipped without disconnecting the towing hitch, to discharge the load. The Bushmaster 1.78 tonne (1.75 ton)-capacity single-axle trailer features a driven axle for operation in rough terrain, and is designed to operate with certain Land-Rover models.

Other models include single and closecoupled axle tank trailers with capacities up to 13,638 litres (3000 gal) and single-axle models which can be fitted out as mobile workshops or servicing units.

SEADYKE

Seadyke Freight Systems Ltd, Nene Parade, Wisbech, Cambs

The main part of SFS production comprises conventional semi-trailers, flat platforms, skeletals and tipping bulkers.

Single, tandem and tri-axle running gear is fitted to the trailers, which are designed to operate up to 34.5 tonnes (34 tons) gcw.

The company also produces what it considers to be a unique dual-floor system for bulkers. Free-flowing materials can be gravity discharged through hoppers without the need for trimming.

A hinged deck section is mounted on the vehicle floor, and as each deck section is hydraulically lifted about its hinge it exposes a hopper outlet in the vehicle platform; the load discharges down the inclined deck section.

SF

SF Vehicle Builders Ltd, Church Stretton, Salop SY6 6PG

Special-purpose semi-trailers manufactured to customers' requirements are SF's speciality. Examples include trailers designed for use with Bedford CF and Transit-type chassis fitted with fifth-wheels; trailers include a light alloy boxvan range and a car recovery unit. Bramber Flexitor suspension units and a Feeny and Johnson three-line vacuum brake system are used..

Other models produced include insulated boxvans on demountable frames and exhibition trailers.

STANBRIDGE

Stanbridge produces car and bus chassis transporters. One trailer is designed to carry seven cars or up to four bus chassis and is plated to 24.9 tonnes (24.5 tons) gcw. It is fittea with Rubery Owen running gear and car accept vehicles having wheel tracks up tc 2,38m (7ft 10m).

TASKERS Taskers Trailers Ltd, Anna Valley, Andover, Hants. Scottish Division, Blairlinn Estate. Cumbernauhl Dunbartonshire, Scotland I-eskers produces a wide range of standarc equipment at its Andover and Cumbernaulc factories.

This comprises the 11 platform range )gether with the associated F8 range of keletals and platform skeletals for operation p to 32 tons gcw.

The low-loader range includes: F4 and F5 todels for carrying plant and machinery, the 4 being designed for distributed loads and the

5 plated for operation up to 54.7 tonnes (54 ins) gross trailer weight. F6 models are also lated to 54.7 tonnes .(54 tons) but have etachable goosenecks for front-end loading. he knock-out axle F7 model is plated to 32n-gross trailer weight. The detachable ooseneck model can be supplied with Tasklift ydraulic power operation for faster turn)und.

Another product is the Taskalastic rubberonded tandem-axle suspension for both lassis and frameless trailers.

Two D-S automatic coupling model ranges re available: the Urban plated to 8.4 tonnes 1.25 tons) and the Heritage plated to 14.7 )nnes (14.5 tons).

TRAILOR

(formerly Peak Commercial Vehicles) Trailor UK, Greg Street, Reddish Trailor SA, the French trailer manufacturer, has set up shop at Reddish but no immediate changes are anticipated for the range.

The main products are straight and dropframe TIR semi-trailers with capacities up to 81.2cum (2,900 cu ft). Tilt-covered trailers are available with RO-R tandem or tri-axle bogies.

Apart from TIR models the company produces flat-platform, skeletal, dual-purpose flats, vans and tippers with either straight or stepped-frames. Trailers can be fitted with either singl.e, tandem or tri-axle bogies and are plated up to 38.6 tonnes (38 tons) gcw.

WARRINGTON

The Warrington Wheel Company Ltd, Hawleys Lane, Longford, Warrington, Lancs Warrington makes drawbar, singleand tandem-axle semi-trailers including flats, frameless, tankers and TIR tilt trailers.

All types of running gear are fitted, according to customer specification. A matched equipment range of trailers, in which trailers share common components with tractive units, thus allowing a degree of parts standardisation, is also offered.

WEEKS

Weeks Trailers Ltd, Ferry Road, Hassle, Yorks HU13 ODZ This company manufactures dumper tipping trailers, as well as its road-going stillage system based on a drawbar or semi-trailer unit with capacities of 10.2 and 12.2 tonnes (10 and 12 tons).

Dumper capacities range from 3.6 to 10.6 tonnes (3.5 to 10.5 tons) for drawbars, to between 8.13 and 25.4 tonnes (8 and 25 tons) for semi-trailer models.

Designed to customer specification for on/off site operation, the trailers feature the company's own bodies, running gear and tipping rams.

Additional models include pole trailers with Weeks' own walking-beam suspensions which are capable of handling up to 40.6 tonnes (40 tons) payload, and industrial low-loaders, again constructed to customer specification and able to carry up to 81 tonnes (80 tons).

WELFORD

Welford Truck Bodies Ltd, Victoria Road, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs ST4 2LP Latest from Welford is the Urbatic all-alloy urban delivery trailer, which can give a payload of 11.2 tonnes (11 tons) when coupled to a Bedford tractive unit. The 7.62m (25ft) long trailer is plated to 16.3 tonnes (16 tons) gcw and is aimed at legislation which could limit unladen weight of delivery vehicles to 5.1 tonnes (5 tons) in certain areas.

Various body layouts can be offered, and the construction incorporates four rows of tubular steel strengtheners on each side. All steel parts are cadmium-plated finish.

Welford also makes purpose-built semitrailers for operation up to 32.5 tonnes (32 tons) gcw for flat and tipper use, constructed to a conventional steel specification.

WOO DHALL

W. Woodhall, King Edward Street, Cowley Bridge Road, Exeter EX4 4NY Low-loaders and machinery carriers for operation between 25.4 tonnes (25 tons) and 40.6 tonnes (40 tons) gcw are made by Woodhall, though the company will make to order trailers plated up to 101.6 tonnes (100 tons) Repairs and conversions, as well as the building of all types of platform, skeletal and semi-low loaders are carried out — including lengthening and refitting of bogies.

YORK

York Trailer Co Ltd, Northallerton, North Yorks The York range of volume-produced standard trailers includes the Freightmaster dry freight and refrigerated frameless trailer vans, Teamster and Lo-deck flat platforms, flat deck and tri-axle stepped deck TIR tilt trailers, skeletal and platform skeletal container carriers, tipper chassis, drawbar trailers, converter dollies and tanker running gear. Freightmasters and platforms are available in flat deck, semi-drop deck and full drop deck configurations, and in gross weights up to 44.7 tonnes (44 tons).

Recent developments on vans include the introduction of underslung suspension on semi-drop decks to increase capacity and reduce loading heights. On platforms, York now offers an optional headboard conforming to the DoE Code of Practice.

York's Truck Equipment Division produce specialized trailers including machinery carriers, low-loaders, trombone extendible trailers, car transporters, Kangarou trailers, coil carriers, Big Chief tipping bodies, caravan trailers and skip trailers.
