Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BEN the Motor and Cycle Trade: Benevolent Fund — is spreading it: net. At its recent annual meetint the charity, which covers 14 distribu. tive and allied trades in the tranSpor industry, decided to alter its rules sc that its board of management car drop what one member called "th( class interest" and in future help tech. nicians — what used to be callec motor mechanics.

Although this may be considered a decision that's not come too soon, it's also a courageous one. For BEN faces a future deficit of something like £80,000. But it does mean that when a firm is approached for a contribution it can do so with the assurance that the whole staff is covered and not just the white-collar workers. Which should help contributions....

In the past the fund has lost out; doubly, because on humanitarian grounds it has bent the rules.

Inflation has, of course, hit BEN hard. And takeovers, too. Because when a firm takes over another one over it's first thought is not to double a donation.
