• The Turner and Newell subsidiary Vandervell is to transfer its production of diesel engine bearings to a new manufacturing plant in Scotland. Based near Bathgate the new £18 million factory will be in production by 1995 and employ 550 people. Its current manufacturing plant employing 850 in Maidenhead will close in 1993.
Italian job
• French hand tool maker Facom is buying an 80% stake in the Italian company Usag. The £50 million deal gives Facom control of Usag which leads the Italian hand tool market with a 28% share. Both companies operate in the motor trade sector. The deal remains subject to approval by the Italian authorities. Last year Facom bought UK hand tool producer Britool.
German Herberts
• Paint manufacturer Herberts has opened a £12 million technology centre in Wuppertal, Germany.
Magnificent seven
• Air Products' Hull depot has won the coveted Workshop of the Year Award, sponsored by Century Oils and SKF. The seven-strong workforces looks after 14 tractive units, 16 cryogenic tanked semi-trailers and a rigid cylinder truck.
Tint hints
• PPG has produced a tinting guide for matching its Deltron range of paints. The guide is said to be pan-European and is available in eight languages and comes with a guide to Deltron tinters. Copies are available from PPG stockists or PPG's customer service department,
Swindon Continental • German tyre manufacturer Continental has opened a £6 million distribution centre in Swindon. Up to 65,000 Uniroyal, Semperit and Continental tyres will be stocked in the 7,450m2 (80.000sq ft) warehouse.
Green Gardner
• Gardner engines remanufactured at the company's Patricroft production plant now have an unlimited mileage three-year parts and labour warranty. In addition operators can have units modified to meet the latest legislation regarding noise and emissions during remanufacturing.
