Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ego Computers is predicting that optical discs will enable tamper-proof records to be stored on computer to the satisfaction of state officials including Inland Revenue and Licensing Authorities.

Until now the ability to alter computer records has meant that they are unacceptable as official documents and paper had to be used.

Ego, claimed to be the biggest supplier of computers to the automotive trade in the UK, has launched a faster processor, the series 6000 and has announced an improved workshop program that should be availale later in the year.

The new processor is capable of 10 million operations per second, will work with all the company's existing equipment and run all the current programs.

The processor holds information for printing and drives the printer while allowing the computer to perform other tasks. By using a four-megabyte hard disc working data is accessible in 1/10,000 second.

The new system can drive up to 20 VDUs and 12 printers, up from 16 and eight. These can be spread over four sites via a communication controller and using a remote cluster controller at each site.

Current programs include: Stock control, including listing and ordering; workshop — booking jobs in, stock out, job progress and invoice production; service — service records, MOT warnings, supplier and owner; Vehicle holding and full service records; sales and purchase ledgers; payroll and cashbook — with a bank reconciliation facility.
