• Cheltenham-based bus operator Western Travel has taken over the eastern division of National Welsh.
The multi-million-pound deal includes 500 staff, about 330 of whom are drivers; 190 buses; and four depots at Cwmbran. Chepstow, Brynmawr and Crosskeys.
The division will operate as an independent firm based at Cwmbran under the name Red and White. It will be headed by Norrie Thomas, who will continue as managing director of two Western Travel subsidiaries: Cheltenham & Gloucester Omnibus and Midland Red.
