• BRS's decision to close 16 sites (CM 18-24 October 1990) has led to 181 redundancies out of 579 jobs. The remaining workforce has been redeployed to other depots.
However, the Hull depot, which was targeted for closure, has been saved, says BRS, which prides itself on having jobs for 66% of the staff from the 15 axed sites.
At the time of the October announcement BRS told CM that 290 jobs would be affected across the 16 depots. Sites which merged with neighbours included Dunstable, Aylesbury, Harlow, Dartford, Bury St Edmunds, Newington Butts, Carlisle, Doncaster, Bolton, Chester and Runcorn.
