• Yorkshire-based National Pig Development Company has added a left-hand-drive truck to its 10-strong fleet to cater for an increase in international business.
The Leyland Daf 6x2 FAR 95.360ATi drawbar rig costs about £123,000, with a 6m Crane Fruehauf trailer and Houghtons Parkhouse body.
Its WS 268 11.6-litre chargecooled engine produces 272kW (364bhp) and drives via a ZF 16S-150 synchromesh gearbox. NPDC is currently using the drawbar in Western Europe, but it is looking at the East European market. The doubledeck prime mover and trailer are fitted with an automatic pumped watering system, to ensure minimum dehydration of the 144 pigs that the rig can accommodate.
The prime mover can be loaded direct by tail-lift, or via the trailer which also has a taillift. The rear bogie incorporates Leyland Dafs 1346 single-reduction drive axle and a trailing, lifting rear axle.
