• A strong pressure-sensitive adhesive tape which offers an alternative to traditional forms of bodybuilding techniques is being marketed by 3M.
The double-sided tape, designated 4950, is said to be strong enough to replace spot welds and rivets when joining body panels. Other advantages over traditional methods include suppressing vibration, giving a continuous, sealed joint and allowing aluminium panels to, be bonded directly to a steel frame without the risk of galvanic corrosion. No special tools are required to apply the tape.
Three widths of tape are available 12mm, 19mm and 25m and a 33 metre roll costs £34.54, £46.04 and £57.55 (all ex VAT) respectively.
