Bogie for Pallets

A WHEELEp low-loading framework for carrying empty or loaded pallets of up to 4,500-lb. capacity, which can be pulled or pushed in any direction or rotated through 360°, is being manufactured by Powell and Co., Burry Port, Carms., South Wales.

The main running rollers are in pairs and mounted on a slightly lower plane than the corner rollers to allow freedom for pivoting. The welded-steel frame is braced for rigidity and provided with towing lugs. Standard dimensions are 3ft 4 in_ by 3 ft. 4 in., hut models for other sizes of pallet can be designed.

Thread Locking Device SELF-LOCKING sereWs and nuts are being produced under the name of Wedglok by Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds (Midlands), Ltd., Box 24, Heath Street. Birmingham, 18. The locking device consists of a resilient nylon pellet inserted into the body of a nut, bolt or screw.

Projecting slightly above the crest of the thread, the pellet sets up a wedging action which tightly grips the threads and produces a counter thrust creating firm methIlic engagement of the mating threads. The resilience of the nylon pellet has the advantage of enabling tbe fastener to be re-used.

A Segmented Brake ABRAKE composed of a number of segmented facings set in an annular housing has been developed in the U.S.A. by the B. F.' Goodrich Co. Inc., for-off

the-road equipment. Known as the, HiTorque, it is stated to be the first hydraulic drum-type brake with 360' expander tube actuation • designed exclusively for large tractors, scrapers and earth movers.

Near-constant facing pressures at all points around the drum area, and at only half the usual maximum facing pressures encountered with anchored brake shoes, is also elainted. Other featuresof the brake are said t6 be the low maintenance required and slow_ ride of facing wear, there being built-in automatic adjustment. Refacing can be carried out .using the simplest tools, a screwdriver and mallet.
