DESPITE opposition from British Raffways, Skegness excursion licences held by Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., and the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., were renewed by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners last week. The companies were also granted permission to operate during Jane.
The.Commissioners were told that Wes,. Yorkshire ran, in conjunction with the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., from Keighley, Bradford and Leeds, . whist Wallace Arnold operated from Bradford, Stanaingley; Leeds, Wakefield and Castle-ford.
. For West Yorkshire, Mr. J. W. Lawrence said in evidence that they had operated the services .since July, 1955, and there was heavy demand for June
• bookings. Submitting 'figures for last year, he pointed out that loadings were adversely affected by the has strike. Giving evidence for Wallace Arnold, Mr. Malcolm Barr said 1957 figures were good because the company operated normally at the time of the bus 'strike, so they were practically fully booked last July.
For the Railways, it was pointed out that they operated through-trains to Skegness in June from the points mentioned. In reply, Mr. W. Hargrave, for West Yorkshire, said the day before the hearing, Leeds City Station statt had been unable to give any information about through-trains to Skegness in June.
"Why are British Railways so reticent about letting the public know of the through facilities to Skegness?" he demanded. "The summer time-table is not published until June." He was told that station staff would shortly be informed.
Granting the aPplications, Maj. F. S. Eastwood pointed out that the vehicle allowance would be announced later.
