• The future of two Wincantonmanaged depots was plunged into doubt this week with the news that a four-year-old Muller Dairies picking and order assembly contract is to he terminated in August.

At least 55 jobs are thought to he directly affected by the move. The 13 drivers who work on the Muller contract out of Wi 'lean tons Worsley depot could be transferred to Muller's new temporary cold store in Preece. Shropsh ire, says Wincanton.

The German-owned dairy says the termination of Wincanton's contract to receive orders, pick products and assemble orders will not affect the continuing contract to distribute Muller products. There are no dedicated Muller drivers at Wincanton's Milton Keynes depot, which is also dedicated to the dairy contract. Wincanton was unable to comment on Transport and General Workers Union claims that customer Van den Berghs is pushing for rescheduled shifts at Wincanton's depot on Manchester's Ocean Trading Estate. The union says the proposed change is from five to three-day operation.
