Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A chemical manufacturer has expressed doubts about the safety of a level crossing near Derby after a near miss between a passenger train and a road tanker last week outside the company's gates.

Hundreds of goods vehicles use the automatic crossing at Spondon every day; many of them are laden with pulps, acetates and acids from the Courtaulds Chemicals plant.

British Rail says a tanker attempted to jump the crossing and the gates were damaged.

However, Courtanlds director David Corkhill says witnesses claim that there were two vehicles involved: "There are fools about, but when you have two vehicles caught simultaneously travelling in opposite directions, it's a bit of a coincidence that two idiots try it at the same time," he says.

Corkhill says it was not one of his vehicles but that it could have been using his site, which is near the (Tossing.
