Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Better IT security should be a priority for hauliers because hackers are now 'stealing' companies identities to get credit alto forward pornography.

Road Tech Computers' Derek Beevor told delegates at a recent seminar that 99% of affected businesses had no idea their systems had been hacked until problems occurred.

He reported that 44% of businesses had suffered an IT security incident or breach last year, according to a Department of Trade and Industry survey.

'At Road Tech we have up to 4,000 people a day trying to break in to our system and use our computers to host porn sites," he added. 'They are only stopped by our IT security. Protecting your computer systems is the only way to stop people abusing your website or company."

A firewall, which protects IT networks from malicious or damaging e-mails and attachments, is essen tial, and all traffic should be directed through ft, he said.

Another risk comes from the new wireless IT systems which broadcast to one another—Beevor warned that these broadcasts can easily be picked up by hackers. He pointed out that e-mail is insecure too, so companies which want better e-mail security should opt for encryption.

"Fixing IT systems so they are secure doesn't cost much," he sad. "Not doing it may mean your company site is redirecting porn, or that someone might steal your company ID. Experts say businesses should be spending 3-5% of their technology budget on security, and up to 10% in high risk areas. It should be viewed as an investment rather than an overhead.'
