The EU Consultation Directive requires operators to set t works councils similar to those that exist in many Continental cou tries. Works councils must be consulted on company finances, a iective redundancies, transfers of undertakings and structur changes including acquisitions and divestments.
This can affect every aspect of the business. In the Netherlanc where works councils became law in 1996, Dutch operators a consulting on the introduction of security cameras in depots and ti advent of digital tachographs.
"Holland has strict privacy laws," says Kees Maurice, operatia director at TNT Express in the Netherlands. "There is a hea debate going on in the works council about digital tachographs—tt unions are also involved."
TNT introduced depot security cameras on the understandk that only security personnel could look at the film: managers al unable to monitor staff.
