Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN-ACCOUNT transport was le subject for Class D of CM's very competition. Because this such a wide-ranging category, le judges looked at liveries on II sorts of vehicles, from light 3ns to top-weight a rtics.

This time there was much ifference nf opinion among le judges, but the final majority pte went to Courage. This very, displayed on a Dodge unit id semi-trailer, was admired )rits strong and clean-looking )yal blue base colour and icely proportioned signwriting. here was a general feeling that le cockerel symbol on the ailer side was "not quite ght", possibly a little too large. he contrasting red wheels ,ere a nice detail touch.

A very close second was the itry of Scot, the cooked meat 3mpany. Its vehicle, a Volvo 10 and refrigerated box semiailer, was most attractive with re trailer sides painted to aggest a giant butcher's apron -a clever idea. The judges 3proved the repetition of this n a small scale on the cab The entry from Cuprinol, ayland Super Buffalo with ink trailer, was very simple but ,oked good. A minus point ,as the difference in the typeices used for the Cuprinol ame on the vehicle and trailer. Two similar liveries came om Newey and Eyre and the 111k Marketing Board, both ahicles in a mid-blue with ihite markings. The judges ced them, but felt they lacked )arkle. This mid-blue colour .ems to have become tremenously popular. "It's that blue 3ain" said one judge.

Other companies using a milar colour included Debenams, Express Catering Foods id Bartol Plastics. The colour liked by the judges, but they iink it is becoming overorked.

Once again, Starsky and utch-style stripes were in vidence, and usually not ppreciated by the judges. hey just didn't relate to the ahicle's shape.

An unusual entry was the mirnoff vehicle. The judges )id that two large adverts on 3ch side of a lorry did not, in contrast to the own-account iss the TIR class had a light try but a very clear winner„ ivis Freight Forwarding (Hull) d with its orange and white ery caught and retained the iges attention.

The orange on white lettering ey thought to be neat and Impelling. Particularly they insiderec that losing the dot the letter 'i' in the orange lpe contributed to the neat

The simplicity of the design is peated on the 22 Seddon Rinson, Davis fleet which serates an unaccompanied -ro service through Hull and imingham to Europe. The tilers carry mainly electrical lods or tyres for Uniroyal prn Bathgate to Belgium, ance, Holland and Germany. One of the most persistent ticisms of our judging panel Dse again in this class when ey scrutinised the TDP press Deliveries livery.

"Too much being said in too any typefaces". Invariably is criticism is followed by a mpathetic addition to the rect that if only the designer d majored on one aspect the aa would have paid off.

This was the case with the mt end of TDP's entry. The I "urgent" label was abso:ely correct on the black and lite background. "It tells the )ry" said the judges.

The side panel was "clut'ed", the arrow "did nothing" r the design and the use of lics on the sides confused the 3t. Repeating the side panel rrative in total on an area half a size at the rear was an hievement which the judges I not consider came off in sign terms. They once again iticised the "Starsky and itch" white line. Overall they t that this entry had tried Do hard" but in vain. It seems at a little less effort in this se would have made the tvis achievement less conisive.

The winners will receive their rards at a private ceremony in ■ ndon today (Friday).
