A PROPOSAL by Merseyside County Council to raise the weight limit on the new Hancocks Canal Bridge, Aintree, from five tons to its maximum design limit of 32 tons has been deferred at the request of the police.
Acting chairman of the committee, Councillor F. L. Pritchard said that the intention was not to allow heavy articulated lorries over the bridge, but by raising the weight limit they could allow public service vehicles to use the bridge.
