Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Iii the Report of the Commissioner for Excise of the Union of South Africa. for the year 1918, it is mentioned that the newly-established union motor fuel industry at Durban absorbed 476,939 gallons of spirit in the past year. The factory started to manufacture motor fuel in February, 1918, and at the end of the year had manufactured 255,158 gallons, and 4,319 gallons were exported. All the ether manufactured by the firm was converted into motor spirit, with the ,exception of 1,300 gallons sold to chemists' for anaesthetic purposes, and 1,956 gallons exported.

The name of the new fuel is Natalite, and supplementing the details given above we may state that it is mainly composed of alcohol and sulphuric ether produced therefrom, together with a small quantity of ammonia. Quite recently a company was formed in Nairobi, in the British East Africa Protectorate to exploit the new motor fuel, under the style of the Natalite Motor Fuel Co. (B.E.A.), Ltd., with a capital

of 1.100,000. It ie proposed to manufacture the alcohol from sugar cane, which can be grown cheaply and with comparative ease in British East Africa. Some well-knewn local men are on the board including, Mr. Charles Ildale, manager and chief engineer of the Nairobi Electric Light Co., and Mr. Leslie J. Tarlton, of Newland, Tarlton and Co., Ltd.
