Paignton Zoo, Devon, where Judy the giraffe from Blackpool Zoo has finally met her lanky hunk, Danny (CM 27 September-3 October).
"The couple have taken to each other like ducks to water and are already necking," says Mary Rosevear of Paignton Zoo. Judy comes into heat soon and, with any luck, the clatter of tiny hoofs could be heard in 15 months.
The haulier who made all this possible is Fox Brothers of Blackpool which used an lveco Ford tractive unit and a low loading trailer for the 10-hour journey. To prevent bouncing and make the journey more comfortable for Judy, the trailer was weighted with a fourtonne test weight.
According to Fox Brothers boss Robert Fox, Judy remained "very calm" and enjoyed the journey so much that she was reluctant to leave the trailer at the end.
On the way back driver Frank Johnson picked up a return load, another giraffe this time from Dudley Zoo.
