Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• As revealed in Commercial Motor (CM 27 September-3 October), FSO has launched a dropside pickup based on the Polonez hatchback.

Designated as a one-tonne truck to avoid confusion with the Fiat 125-based pickup, it has gross payload of 1,075kg. The dropsides and tailgate are removable, leaving a clear flatbed measuring 2.0m long by 1.5m wide.

The truck is a chassis-cab with the body is being fitted in Poland, but FSO is planning to import the chassis-cab, enabling a choice of bodies to be fitted in the UK.

Power comes from the 1.6litre engine fitted to the hatchback, which develops 47kW (63hp) and a maximum torque of 128Nm (94Ibft) at 3,600rpm on unleaded fuel. Drive is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed gearbox. A diesel option is not yet available, but FSO says it is looking at possible engines.

Standard equipment includes an adjustable steering column and a fully carpeted interior. Options include a detachable glass fibre body top and tonneau cover.

FSO expects to have the first trucks in the showrooms by January. Priced at about 25,000 they offer good value for money, undercutting conventional pickups like the Peugeot 504 and Japanese onetonners by about 21,600.
