Escorts and Orions, including vans, built between December 1986 and January 1988 to check the insulation of a wire connected to the fuel shut-off valve solenoid.
The recall went out on 30 August, and most owners should have been contacted by now. The work takes 15 minutes at a Ford dealer and is free of charge.
