Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Chippenham-based indepen. dent Overland and County has gone into receivership, less • than six months after launching a Pullman commuter service in competition with British Rail.

The company ran less than 20 vehicles at the time of closure including a pair of Optare StarRiders, bought in 1988. Overland was bought by the present owner Tony Neilson in 1986 and was originally based at Malmesbury trading as Athelstan Coaches. It underwent a postderegulation expansion programme offering services in three counties, but by the beginning of this year it was running only three bus routes.

Following a move to new premises at Bumpers Farm, Chippenham, the company launched the West Country Pullman for business travellers, using Setra Executive coaches from Swindon to London and a feeder route from Devizes and Marlborough.
