TESCO HASAGREED to make immediate improvements to drivers' facilities at its regional distribution centres (RDCs) following a meeting to discuss poor conditions and delays.

Last week the supermarket chain's operations director, John Boulter, met with Barrie Tozer, the driver who runs the truckersmoan.co.uk website. They visited Tesco's operation at Daventry to discuss the problems that drivers face.

The supermarket has now introduced a list of targets to be met by all RDCs including a maximum turnaround time of one hour from booking in. and allowing drivers to use the canteen.

Tozer says that the meeting was a great success: "To assist John in getting all RDCs up to a good standard, we have agreed to carry out a survey on the site in March asking drivers for comments about Tesco's RDCs. That way John will know which ones need looking at. Drivers do not need to be our members to fill in the survey -all drivers that deliver to Tesco should get involved as this is for their good. John's co-operation in listening to us and agreeing to look into matters was a good start."

However. Tozer warns this will be his last meeting with employers unless Truckersmoan can secure additional funding.

A spokesman for Tesco adds: "It was a constructive meeting. We don't want drivers to be unhappy with the way we work and we strive to ensure that we provide them with a high standard of facilities.

-We have taken Mr Tozer's feedback for review across all our management teams to ensure that these standards are maintained across all our RDCs."
