Britain), Ltd., has been elected chairman of the tyre section of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders for the 12th successive year. From 1933-40 he was chairman of the commercial vehicle tyre section. MR. A. J. B. HEATH has joined Goodyear and has been assigned to special duties in the tyre department.

MR. J. V. BRAITHWAITE has been reelected chairman of the Yorkshire (West Riding) Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association. The vice-chairman is MR. G. J. BARROW.

MR. F. A. WORSFOLD, assistant secretary, MR. L SPIUGGS, superintendent of the North works, and MR. H. KIRKHAM, chief assistant buyer, this week retired from Leyland Motors, Ltd. Their years of service with the company totalled 110.

MR. ALEXANDER WATERSTON, director of the Esso Petroleum Co., Ltd., since 1938, has retired after completing 40 years' service with, the company. After being Glasgow branch manager, he was appointed London general sales manager in 1934. During the war Mr. Waterston was seconded to the Petroleum Board.

MR. A. MACNAIR has been elected chairman and MR. A. S. McKhchmh vice-chairman of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Centre of the Institute of Traffic Administration. The secretary and treasurer is MR. G. HILL MR. A. RITCHIE IS the chairman of Falkirk Centre.

MR. H. Muscaom general manager of Huddersfield Transport Department, has been nominated for election as vice-president of the Monicipal Passenger Transport Association for 1954-55. MR. G. BEacErr, general manager of Darwen Transport Department, is to read a paper on the subject of national joint councils at the M.P.T.A. annual conference in September, ALD. R. MOULD-GRAHAM, chairman of Newcastle upon Tyne Transport Committee, has been elected Lord Mayor.

ALD. T. W. BRIDGLAND has, after 12 years, been succeeded as chairman of Sheffield Transport Committee by CUR. S. 1. DYSON.

MR. F. OWEN, who was the first motor driver of the Yorkshire Conservative Newspaper Co., Ltd., and since 1920 transport manager, has retired after 51 years' service with the company.

MR. R. RIBCHESTER has joined Kirbys, Ltd., as general manager of the Blackpool depots. The company are Rootes distributors. Mr. Ribchester was formerly general and sales manager .of Barton Motors (Preston), Ltd.

MR. A. S. C. Chart-Ey, managing director of A.C.V. Sales, Ltd., recently returned from a 20,000-mile tour of A.C.V. African export territories. He visited Uganda, Kenya, Tanganyika, the Rhodesias, Portuguese East Africa and the Union of South Africa. Mr. Chattey is confident that there is great scope for the British heavy-vehicle industry in Africa, provided that quality is maintained.

MR. S. C. BOND has been re-elected chairman of the Traders' Road Transport Association, and president in succession to Cot. ARTHUR JERRETT. COI. Jerrett has been co-opted as an honorary member of the national council, the first person to receive such a distinction. MR. J. JANES, MR. F, H. JONES, MR, C. E. JORDAN and MR. R. E. CLOUGH have been appointed vicechairmen of the national council, and MR. H. C. CRANE, honorary treasurer.
