Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I WOULD like to reply to Albert Wall's (Walls Motor Tours) letter published in CM February 21 regarding the training of apprentices.

A certain way of ensuring a continuing disregard of the skill: involved in motor vehicle repair is to refuse apprentices any formal training. Any "fitter" should ensure that the apprentice within his charge receives the appropriate train inc. whether day release or RTITB sponsored courses at a suitable college.

I am sure that any lecturer at one of these institutions would have experience of breakdowns on the road, but as regards fitting a "cliff" under these circumstances, I, for one, would consider this at best a "bodge" job.

A clean environment using proper tools (DTI, etc) would be needed unless perhaps the job for a stock car or secondhand "runner".
