For the concern it was stated that since the war, costs had risen by 140 per cent. MS. secondapplication would bring rates up to 20 per cent, above the prewar aveiage.
The changes authorized are as . follows: single fares from 34d.-6d. go , up by id. and those from 7d. upwards .by-Id.; return. fares from 6d.-9d. -rise
• by Id., thereafter by 2d. Workmen's
rates will now be calculated on the basis of single fare plus a third. . . Corporation Fares 'Up Motorbus charges at Wallasey and Birkenhead went up last Sunday. Early-. morning concession fares replace workmen's tickets on both undertakings' routes; and are available up to 8 a.m. on Birkenhead buses and up to 7.40 si.m, on Wallasey buses.
• Children's fares at Birkenhead are now based on a lid. minimum and ordinary fares over 3id. -have gone up. by id. At Wallasey, all tickets,. except the Iid. and Ad., have gone up by id. • Haying succeeded in obtaining per-, 'nfissionto abolish workmen's fares in the South Wales Traffic Area, Red and White Services, Ltd., now proposes to. introduce weekly tickets in their stead also in the Western Traffic. Application to increase workmen's fares to l times the single fare .on 44 routes, has been made by West Yorkshire Road. Car Co., Ltd. Keighley,West Yorkshire Services, Ltd., has made similar application to. the Yorkshire Licensing Authority concerning 13 services. Revised children's rates as 25 routes have been .granted to Thames Valley Traction Co., Ltd.
Certain coach operators in the East Midland Traffic Area have applied for permission to advance charges on excursions and tours by 10 per cent. Among them is Trent MotorTraction Co., Ltd., operating 42 tours.
Twenty-four operators in the North-western Traffic Area have applied for permission to increase •fares on excursions and tours. An addition of 3d. to tickets between 3s. and 7s. 6d. and of 6d. thereafter, is requested.

Warnings have been given by Wilts and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd:, that the -extra fuel costs resulting from the Budget wipe out the additional revenue accruing from higher charges and the concern faces a loss of £30,000. A N increase of 7s. a week ia the basic pay of 1,200 road haulage workers employed by Corns Ionmair Eireann has been recommended -by the Irish Labour Court. The rise, it proposed, should be back-dated to February 16. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought an-increase of I Is. 6d. per week-.
STEEP RISE IN REGISTRATIONS "IQ EG1STRATIONS of new Vehicles in I% January, excluding cars and motor'cycles,-showed a steep rise as compared with the previous month's figure. January's figure was 15,077, the December total being 7,620.
-Every class contributed to the increase. The most-substantial advance Was in agricultural tractors (2 class), which rose fronts. 936 in December to 4.431 in January. Details are given in the table below.
