Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

a warning from the ETA that the new type of rear reflective marker should not be fitted to vehicles other than those for which fitment will be compulsory from November I.

We have fitted our whole fleet with these markers in readiness for November 1 and have included some small vehicles in order to present a standard appearance. On what grounds has the FTA based this information?

AThe FTA's information must be based on

paragraph 2(1) of the Road Transport Lighting Act 1957 which states that no vehicles shall show any light to the rear other than a red light, or a white light for the purpose of reversing. This regulation is made subject to the provisions of another regulation which gives the Minister power to impose regulations specifying other types of light which is what has been done in this case.

For the purpose of the regulations the yellow reflective background of the markers is considered to be a light and therefore is not allowed on any vehicle other than those specified.
