Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Steyr of Austria has launched a new range of lightweight general-purpose cross-country vehicles. Designated the Pinzgauer, the range features two basic models, a 4 x 4 of 1 ton capacity and a 6 x 6 of 1.5 tons capacity. Several versions are available and although larger, all follow the basic concept of the Haflinger which continues in production.

The power unit is an air-cooled four-cylinder petrol engine developing 87 bhp in the four-wheeled version and 92 bhp in the six-wheeler. Both have a five-speed gearbox with an additional two-speed transfer box; synchromesh is featured on all gears.

Suspension on the 4 x 4 is by means of coils front and rear while on the 6 x 6 balance-type leaf springs are used at the rear. Dual-circuit brakes are standard and both clutch and gearboxes are hydraulically actuated. The differentials are all lockable.

As many parts as possible are standardized so that, for example, the differential type is common to the front and rear and to both models. The Pinzgauer will be available for civilian use from 1972 onwards, present production being for the Austrian and Swiss armies.
