Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• All buses operated by the Highland Omnibus Co Ltd from its Oban depot are now one-man operated. This includes the Oban-Glasgow service.

The move was announced last week by a .spokesman for the company who said that conducting staff in the Oban area had already received notice that their jobs were to disappear. Three regular and one temporary conductresses will be affected by the change which took place as a matter of urgency.

The company's manager in the Oban area, Mr F. Muggridge, said they did not anticipate a hold-up on the Glasgow service as a result of the new system. Drivers staffing that route would be on the stance 15 minutes before departure time to load passengers' luggage and other goods, and take fares.

Mr Muggridge said that the decision to adopt the o-m-o system would save a great deal of money in wages. "At present nearly 70 per cent of our revenue is paid out in wages," he added, pointing out that his company was not alone in adopting this system.
